White Balance

Light has color and temperature. Some light is blue and cool. Some light is more yellow and warm.

Lighting effects the color in photographs. A quick way to tell if the temperature of the light is effecting your photo is to look at the whites. If the whites look blueish instead of white, you are working under some very cool light. Likewise, if your whites look yellow, you have a very warm light to work with.

White balance (WB) is a camera function that tries to balance temperature of light to make white, white.

Keeping your WB on AUTO is often a safe bet.

However, if you understand it, choosing your own white balance settings creates more control over your photograph.
